Meet Charlotte

Charlotte says hi!

Hi! I’m Charlotte Malycon. Thanks for visiting my site. If you want to know what Words Made Easy is about or why it started, please read my first post. But if you don’t have time for that…

IN a snapshot, I guess the aim of this place is to stimulate conversation around anything ‘word-worthy’. To start up chats that are about more than renovations, schools or if we’ve been to the gym lately. Of course I talk endlessly about such things with my girlfriends, but Words Made Easy is a space to stretch ourselves.

I’m going to throw some thoughts out there. I can’t promise to know everything or have the answers to anything. But I will do my best to start a train of discovery and hopefully others will pick up the thread.

If you’re looking for authenticity, then you might care about my training. I have a B.A Communications from Charles Sturt University – Bathurst (graduated 1996 if there’s any Mitchell Mafia looking for a link).

Over the past three years I’ve been collaborating with like creatives producing strategy, content & copy at Kindleman. Prior to that I maintained freelance copywriting business, Decypher, producing copy direct for clients and through agencies. It’s nice to be able to say, when people ask, that I’m a writer. Though I dream of publishing a novel one day, it’s copywriting here in Sydney, Australia that currenty pays the bills.

Before I launched my own copywriting business, I worked with one of Sydney’s leading digital agencies, One Media, where I led award-winning Microsoft campaigns and online creative for numerous blue-chip clients such as Nestle, Tower, eBay and ING. This had derived from earlier iterations of Amarati Puris Lintas, Lowe Lintas then Lowe Hunt Digital before it became an independant hothouse.

My very first ‘real job’ was as a publicist with Random House. I then spent a while making films and lived through something like five iterations of the digital division of APL/Lowe Lintas/Lowe Hunt before launching Decypher back in 2003. During that I timed I’ve also had two kids and built a house.

I hope through all that, its fair to say that I have breadth of experience, broad writing ability, a love of great ideas and belief in solid strategy. They say writing is ‘a lonely profession,’ but I enjoy the camaraderie and motivation of working in teams.

Working in large enterprise, mainstream and digital agencies, smaller production houses and for myself, has taught me to connect well. And I suppose Words Made Easy is another way for me to do that!

So if you have something interesting to say, drop me a line. Let’s get this conversation started!
